Stowe, Geo. H. & Maurice (Silver Black Rabbits - 1928)
Geo. H. Stowe and son, Maurice, of Unity, were Neillsville callers on Friday and gave the Press some interesting facts in regard to silver black fox fur rabbits, which are bred by Mr. Stowe. He had with him a specimen of the tanned skin of these rabbits. Unlike the common wild rabbit the skin is as tough as ordinary leather; the fur closely resembles that of the silver black fox, and has become well established in the market for sale on a commercial basis. The flesh is the equal of other tame rabbits as food.
Rabbit raisers have organized a co-operative association for marketing their products in a large way. Considering the fact that wild life in the United States - especially fur-bearing animals - are on the decline, and the world must more and more depend on fur-farmers for a supply, Mr. Stowe is very hopeful of the future of this business. He has made a good start and will soon be able to furnish a wide range of demands.
