Jackson, Capt. Leo M. (Promotion - 1929)

 

Now Major Jackson

 

By an order effective March 14, Captain Leo M. Jackson of Neillsville was promoted to Major and will be in command of the First Battalion of the 128th Infantry Wisconsin National Guard.  This battalion consists of Co. A of Menomonie, Co. B of Eau Claire, Co. C of Marshfield and Co. D. of Rice Lake, and the Headquarters Co., First Battalion of Hudson.

 

Major Jackson has had a long and honorable military career.  He enlisted as a private in old Co. A of Neillsville April 16, 1907; was appointed Corporal March 30, 1908; promoted to Sergeant April 8, 1909; to first Sergeant Jan. 14, 1912; Commissioned Second Lieutenant Jan. 12, 1913.  After service with Co. A Third Wis. Infantry on the Mexican Border in the fall of 1916, he was commissioned First Lieutenant, Jan. 1917.  The United States entered the World War in April 1917 and Lieutenant Jackson was called into service at once with Co. A, and was soon overseas and in active service in France.

 

He was in the Alsace sector from May 18 to July 21, 1918; was on the Aisne-Marne offensive Aug. 26 to Sept. 6; the Meuse-Argonne offensive Sept. 26 until the Armistice.  He then served with the Army of Occupation until the return of the troops.  Commissioned Captain March 16, 1919, and placed in command of the Service Co. 128th Infantry of Neillsville April 28, 1922.  In December 1926 he was appointed Regimental Intelligence Plans and Training Officer, which position he held until his present promotion.

 

In the military history of Neillsville extending back for many years only three majors have been developed; Major J. W. Hommel, deceased, Major A. C. Martin and Major Jackson.
