Chattel Mortgages (1929)
After Jan. 1, 1930, all chattel mortgages must be filed with the Register of Deeds, and he must send a certified copy of the mortgage to the town, city or village clerk in which the mortgagee resides. The old law requires filing only with these local clerks. On Jan. 1, these local clerks must send records of all chattel mortgages on file with them to the Register of Deeds.
Filing fee under the new law is 25 cents, which is paid to the Register of Deeds - one half of filing fee is sent to the local clerks by the Register of Deeds, when he sends certified copy of mortgage.
Cancellation of mortgage costs 25 cents. All chattel mortgages must be cancelled within ten days after payment.
