Gumz, Leonard D. (18 JUL 1933 - 6 AUG 2010)

 

COLBY -- Leonard D. Gumz, 77, of Colby, passed away Friday, Aug. 6, 2010, at House of the Dove in Marshfield.

His funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 10, at Christ Lutheran Church in Abbotsford. The Rev. Dr. Paul C. Hunsicker will officiate. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. at the church Tuesday. Burial will take place in Dorchester Memorial Cemetery in Dorchester. Pallbearers will be Dustin Gumz, Nathan Kunze, James Johnson, Ryan Preisinger, Travis Lewandsowski and Terry Fiedler.

Leonard was born July 18, 1933, to Selma (Blasel) and William Gumz Sr. He served his country in the Army during the Korean War.

Leonard was joined in marriage to Elaine Peter at the United Church of Christ in Dorchester on Aug. 3, 1957. Leonard and Elaine bought a farm in Colby in 1961 and that is where they raised their family.

Leonard enjoyed the outdoors, hunting and fishing, playing cards and occasionally going to the casino. He enjoyed farming and most of all enjoyed spending time with his family.

He is lovingly survived by his wife, Elaine, of Colby; his children, Duwayne (Susan) Gumz of Colby, Bryan (Brenda) Gumz of Medford and Tammy (Philip) Kunze of Abbotsford; nine grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Leonard is further survived by his brother, Eugene (Barbara) Gumz of Colby; sisters Esther Kreklau of Stetsonville and Betty (Jerry) Gebert of Holcombe; and sisters-in-law Dawn Gumz of Dorchester and Verna Peter of Rothschild.

Leonard is preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Alfred Gumz and William Gumz Jr.
