Dergance, Matthew Sr. (4 SEP 1880 - 1 AUG 1966)

 

Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Friday at Holy Family Catholic Church, Willard, for Matthew Dergance, Sr., 85, Willard (Clark Co., Wis.), who died Monday, Aug. 1, 1966, at Memorial Hospital, Neillsville.  The Rev. William Nikolai officiated and burial was made in the Holy Family Cemetery at Willard.

 

A general rosary service was held at 8:00 p.m. Thursday night at Hill Funeral Home.

 

Matthew Dergance Sr. was born Sept. 4, 1880, in Yugoslavia and came to the United States at the age of 16.  He located in California and then went to Alaska where he spent eight years.  He returned and worked in the mines in Washington and Colorado before coming to Clark County in 1916 where he operated a farm.  He became ill about a year ago.  He was a member of the Holy Family Catholic Church at Willard.

 

Survivors include four sons, Albin, Chicago, Ill.; Vernon, Broadview, Ill.; Edwin, Willard; and Matthew, Jr., Hillside, Ill.; eight grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

 

He was preceded in death by his wife, the former Mary Vodah whom he married in 1911 at Black Diamond, Wash., and by one son, William.
