Egbert, Oral, Rev. (29 OCT 1904 - 29 JUL 1966)

 

The Rev. Orval Egbert, 61, pastor of the Immanuel and Zion United Churches of Christ at Greenwood from June 1958 to June 1966, died at 9:20 p.m. Friday, July 29, 1966 at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Marshfield, where he had been a patient since June 29.  He had been in ill health for the past three months.

 

Services were held Monday at the Immanuel united Church of Christ here.  The Rev. James Savides, Eau Claire, minister of the Northwest Association, officiated.

 

The Hill Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

 

The Rev. Mr. Egbert was born Oct. 29, 1904, at Gypsum, Kan., and received his education at the Mission House Academy and Lakeland College in Sheboygan.  After his graduation in 1936 from the Mission House Seminary in Sheboygan,  he served his first pastorate in Lone Tree, Iowa.

 

In 1939, he went to Oshkosh where he served until June 1946, when he accepted a call to Chilton.  He then went to Junction City, Kan., where he served the Zion Church for two years before coming to Greenwood on June 10, 1958.  The Rev. Mr. Egbert accepted a call to St. Paul’s United Church of Christ at Malone, effective June 1, 1966, but due to ill health was forced to resign.

 

Survivors include his wife, the former Alice Harshman; three sons, Dale, Oshkosh; S. Sgt. Duane, U.S. Army, Ft. Campbell, Ky.; and Edwin, cadet in the U.S. Air Force Academy, Colorado Springs, Colo.; two brothers, Claude, McCune Kan.; and Jake, Salina, Kan.; a sister, Mrs. Kenneth (Alice) Weber, McPherson, Kan.; and one grandson.
