Greenwood, Wisconsin

Rispa Crowell of Spencer visited friends in Unity last week.

A very pleasant evening was spent by several young people at Mrs. Schofield’s home one evening last week.

Editor Ray Hugoboom of Dorchester was in Unity over Sunday rendering services in the Register office.

Electors in the town of Unity will vote on the matter of restraining of running at large on our public highways of cattle, horses, sheep, swine etc.

W. Haskins, George F. Bowen and Fred Nelson departed for Washington Tuesday to view the western country.  If satisfied they may remove their families west.  We wish them an enjoyable and successful journey.

The "Pitchwork" procession last week caused considerable excitement and the attention of our citizens was attracted owing to the harmonious strains of music and the graceful steps of marching.  Even the fairer sex took part and seemingly in their glory.  What next?

Herman (Schwarze?) and Christ write from Fort Wingate that they are in perfect health and that the weather is ideal and wearing of coats is unnecessary.  The boys expect to get a lay off in about four months unless orders to proceed to the Islands in the Pacific are received before that time.

The entertainment by the Colby home talent last Saturday evening was only fairly attended but the show was far above the ordinary kind.  The audience appreciated the acting and was not backward in giving frequent applause.  The dance was a social success and the Crescent dance orchestra gave the usual popular musical discourse.

Spencer has voted to Incorporate and the citizens of that town have reason to feel proud of the successful result.  A better act they never carried, and in due time, not at all distant, even the opposers will see the beneficial result and the good thereby accomplished.  They are now coming under a form of government which will be of the people, by the people and for the people of Spencer village.  No outsiders are to dictate the limit of their improvements, no one is to question their right of using the funds raised and otherwise obtained, for whatever they see fit and deem the more proper and beneficial.  They have all to gain and nothing to loose.  Of course, all sorts of threats and misdemeanors are now bearable but undoubtedly little attention is paid thereto, or at least outht to be.  Spencer, Unity congratulates you in being successful and may you now reap the good and advancement is our wish.  You have been successful in that one good move.  Now you should organize, establish and maintain a high school.  You will regret it no more than incorporation.   We expect to be with you as a village in a year’s time.
