Henry Hoffman of Stockbridge, Calumet County, is visiting his brother, John Hoffman, south of town.

Mrs. Jos. Pline returned to her home in St. Paul, Friday after a visit with her parents and friends.

John Barkley has improved his new house with a dress of paint, giving it a decidedly neat appearance.

Ira Davis leaves this week with his drilling outfit for North Dakota.  His brother Emroy is out there now.

E. T. Burch accompanied by Edna, went to St. Paul Monday morning to purchase his fall stock of goods for his store.

Mrs. N. J. Carter left Monday morning to visit the wholesale markets in the interests of her millinery business.

S. R. Kelley and better half with Master Harley and baby Verletta Maud, were Loyal visitors Sunday afternoon.

Simon Schwarze, wife (the former Augusta Kotsch) and child went to Fairchild Saturday noon to visit Mrs. Schwarze’s people who live near there.

Editor Richardson and C. M. Taylor of Loyal were Greenwood business callers Friday and paid the Gleaner office a pleasant call.

Manager Memhard is in Minneapolis and St. Paul this week attending the state fair and looking up bargains for the Big Store.

The Misses Lola Mason, Allie Williams and Bertha Snider, with Frank Derringer as chaperon, drove to Loyal and back Sunday.

There being no service at the M. E. church Sunday evening, the League will hold its devotional meeting at 7 o’clock.  Subject, "Ready for His Coming,"  Luke 12:31-40.  Leader, Gladys Cummings.

Ernest Schwarze had his left thumb nearly cut off Tuesday afternoon at the first joint.  He now wears his hand in a sling while the member which was sewed together by Dr. Schofield, is growing together.

Grace Edwards, who has been spending the past few weeks at the Gleaner home, returned to her home in La Crosse the first of the week.  She was accompanied by her little nephews, Joseph and Edward Noyes.

Bertha Snider left Tuesday for Mankato, Minnesota, to attend the wedding of her brother, who lives there, next Tuesday.  She will spend the winter there.  Her brother Wesley drove to Neillsville with her.

Myrtle Zafke, who lives with her grand parents, Mr. and Mrs. F. W. Einfeldt, was unfortunate enough Monday morning to fall, while playing in the barn, and break her left arm between the elbow and shoulder.

O. C. Behrens, who has been confined for some time in hospital at Chippewa Falls as a result of a stroke of paralysis, came home Monday.  He is somewhat better, being able to walk some.  He will return to Chippewa Falls and continue the treatment at the hospital.

Mabel Bishop left Saturday morning for Chicago where she will put in the coming year at Chicago College, studying the piano.  She is fond of music and is already "at home" with the instrument, and will keenly enjoy her privileges.  Her many Greenwood friends wish her good success and hope to hear from her a year hence if not sooner.  Her mother accompanied her and will visit relatives near Chicago before returning in about two weeks.
