Kissling, Ernest D. (1927? - 27 AUG 2010)
NEILLSVILLE -- Ernest Kissling, 83, of Neillsville, died Friday,
Aug. 27, 2010, in the Palliative Care Unit of Ministry Saint
Joseph's Hospital in Marshfield.
Ernest DuWayne Kissling was born at home in the town of Grant,
rural Neillsville, the son of Harry and Alice (Meddaugh)
Kissling.
He attended Cunningham Grade School and graduated from Neillsville
High School. Upon his 18th birthday, Ernest enlisted in the United
States Navy and served in the Pacific aboard the USS Commencement
Bay. He was honorably discharged in 1947 and then he returned home
to help his father on the family farm.
On June 8, 1950, he was united in marriage to Jane M. Pepper at the
Methodist Church in Neillsville. At about that same time, Ernest
began working for RolloHomes in Marshfield. Later, he went to
Marshfield Homes, which was later sold and renamed Wick Building
Systems. Ernest retired in 1990, but he always remained active
puttering around in his shop at home.
In his spare time, Ernest enjoyed hunting and fishing, ice fishing
and camping, where he could hunt or fish.
He is survived by his wife, Jane, a son, Michael (Patti) Kissling
of Ruidoso, N.M., a daughter, Vicki Kissling of Miami, Fla., a
granddaughter, Cassandra Fox of Wasilla, Alaska, and a sister,
Donna Lee of Florida.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
A memorial service for Ernest will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday,
Sept. 1, 2010, at the Gesche Funeral Home in Neillsville. Pastor
Douglas will officiate. Military honors will be accorded by the
Neillsville Veterans Council. Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 8
p.m. Tuesday and from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Gesche
Funeral Home.
Honorary casket bearers are: Eugene Spiegel, Gary Spiegel, Jason
Spiegel, Jason Peterson, Joshua Spiegel and Bernard Spiegel.
