Castner, Daniel #2 (17 MAY 1873 - 13 DEC 1950)

 

Daniel Castner, 77, died at his home here at 10:10 on Wednesday morning, Dec. 13, 1950.  He had not been well for some time but had not been confined to the house much of the time.

 

Mr. Castner was born on May 17, 1873, in the town of Loyal (Clark Co., Wis.).  On Dec. 31, 1896 he was married to Dollie Milligan at Neillsville.  To this union were born six children: Mrs. Bernhard (Elva) Fischer of Medford, Mrs. Chester (Alice) Berg, Claude Castner and Mrs. Reginald (Inez) Behrens of Marshfield, a son, Glen, who died in service during World War I, and a won, who died in infancy.  His wife died on Mar. 30, 1936.  In June 1937, he married Florence Whitney here.  He is survived by his wife, four children and five grandchildren.

 

Mr. Castner was a farmer in the town of Loyal for most of his life.  In 1935 he retired and moved into the city of Loyal and had lived here since.  At one time he attended dairy school at the University of Wisconsin.  He was a member of the Odd Fellow Lodge at Neillsville.

 

He came from one of the pioneer families in this vicinity.  His grandfather, Daniel Mack, was one of two brothers who were the first white settlers in the town of Loyal.  Mr. Castner served as assessor in that township for several years and also served on the school board of the Lyons School District.

 

Funeral services were held at the Myre Funeral Home at 2 p.m. Saturday, the rev. Lee Holmes officiating.  Pallbearers were henry Boe, Frank Kline, James White, Herbert White, Ray A. Prior and H. E. Catlin.  The hymns, "When I Get to the End of the Way: and "Beyond the Sunset," were sung by Mrs. Ray Prior and Mrs. Calvin Prior, with Miss Donna Mae Gotter as organist.  Everett Berg, a grandson of Mr. Castner, sang "The Lord’s Prayer."

 

Those from out of town who attended the funeral services were Mr. and Mrs. Bernhard Fischer of Medford, Mr. and Mrs. Chester Berg and son, Dale, Mr. and Mrs. Claude Castner, Mr. and Mrs. Reginald Behrens, John Castner, Miss Jeanette Castner, Mrs. Cora Mehler, Mrs. Earl berg, and Mrs. G. C. Berg, all of Marshfield, Everett Berg of Waukesha, Mr. and Mrs. Art Klimmer of Detroit, Mich., Will Helms of Glidden, and Mr. and Mrs. Hugo Roesler of Thorp.
