Neillsville, Wisconsin (Card Playing - 1901)
Dr. John Conroy very pleasantly entertained a number of young ladies and gentleman at cards, at his office rooms, Tuesday night, in honor of his sister, Miss Charlotte, who is a guest at the home of Mr. and Mrs. T. F. Conroy. Mrs. Geo. Sontag acted as chaperone to the party and we can vouch as to her efficiency in every respect. Progressive cinch was played and four beautiful prized were awarded. The first ladies’ prize, a beautiful edition of the new book "The Crisis", by Winston Churchill, was won by Miss Grace Dickinson, and the second prize, a beautiful atomizer, by Miss Mayme Woodward. John Mick carried off the gentleman’s prizes, a paper knife and letter opener, and the second, a very fine pen knife, was won by Dr. J. H. Brooks.
Card playing was kept up until 11 o’clock, when dainty refreshments were served, and at about midnight the jolly crowd dispersed, all having spent a most enjoyable evening.
