Harry Neff Barn (Fire - 1902)
The Harry Neff farm barn in Levis, occupied by Wm. Heiking, was struck by lightning at 5 p.m. last Thursday, setting the barn afire and destroying it, with 25 or 30 tons of hay belonging to Mr. Heiking, besides killing a heifer. The other stock was saved, and the wagon and other movables. Barn and hay had insurance in the Lynn Mutual, which was promptly adjusted.
When the halters were slipped off the horses they didn’t stop to perish in the flames, but up with their tails and lit out for the woods. The heifer was left dead, stiff as a poker, standing on her head and fore legs.
