Broeske, Gottfried Richard (7 Feb. 1874 - 2 July 1959)

 

Funeral services for Gottfried Richard Broeske, Dorchester, who died July 2, were held Sunday afternoon at 1:30 at the Peace Evangelical church, Dorchester, with the Rev. Fred Kollath officiating. Internment was made in Memorial cemetery, Dorchester.

 

Pallbearers were Arthur Baehr, Arvid Carlson, Albert Fenske, Clarence Rankl, Henry Rau, and Emil Untiedt.

 

Mr. Broeske, who was born in Germany, Feb. 7, 1874, came to America with his parents when he was seven years old. He lived at Arlington Heights, Ill., and was married there May 14, 1896, to the former Pauline Flentje.

 

In 1901, the family moved to Dorchester and later to the town of Mayville, where he operated a farm. He resided in the Dorchester area until he became ill and last November entered Bethel Convalescent Home at Arpin, where death, caused by complications of age, occurred Thursday morning.

 

Mr. Broeske served the town of Mayville as clerk for 20 years. He was one of the early members of Peace Evangelical church and was its president for 25 years.

 

Surviving are one son, Elroy, Colby; two daughters, Mrs. Ole (Gertrude) Hanson, Abbotsford, and Mrs. Floyd (Ruth) Carlson, Dorchester; 15 grand children, 33 great grand children, one sister, Mrs. August Greinke, Arlington Heights, Ill.

 

He was preceded in death by his wife in 1941. A son, Edwin, was killed in a farm accident in 1934. One brother and one sister also preceded him in death.

 

All of his surviving children attended the funeral. Close relatives and friends from away included Mr. and Mrs. Earl Boss and family, Colby; Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Flentje and Ray Copeland, Stevens Point; Mr. and Mrs. Gilbert Copeland and Donna Mae, Antigo; Mr. and Mrs. Mahlon Hamel, Arpin; Mr. and Mrs. Carl Bartsch and Mr. and Mrs. Armin Gruenke, Marshfield; and Mr. and Mrs. Chris Bremer, Rib Lake.

 

Many friends from Abbotsford, Curtiss, Dorchester and vicinity also attended the funeral.
