Kraus, Joseph (1874? - 13 Aug. 1959)
Funeral services for Joseph Kraus of Colby were held Monday morning at St. Mary’s Catholic church, Colby; with the Rev. John B. Pinion officiating at a 9:30 Requiem High Mass.
Mr. Kraus, who was 85 years old, died Thursday at St. Joseph’s hospital, Marshfield. He was a resident of Colby the past 50 years and for 30 years was in partnership in the Kraus-Kersten general store.
He was active in the Catholic Order of Foresters and was national secretary for many years. During his life, he participated in a number of singing societies and was a member of the church choir until three years ago.
Surviving him are his widow, the former Josephine Frane, four daughters, Mrs. Stanley (Catherine) Morales, of Chicago; Mrs. Alois (Bernadette) Gabriel, Colby; Mrs. Douglas (Beatrice) Rifleman, Edgar; and Mrs. Sal E. (Dorothy) Zavala, Riverside, California; and 17 grand children.
One son, Hubert, died in 1938. Two brothers and five sisters also preceded him in death.
