Severson, Florence (Marriage - 7 Nov. 1959)

Miss Florence Severson and Charles Thompson, Jr., both of Abbotsford, exchanged marriage vows in a double ring ceremony at Trinity Lutheran church, West Bend, Saturday afternoon. The Rev. C. Meyer read the service at 3:30 o’clock.

Parents of the couple are Mr. and Mrs. Leroy Severson of West Bend and Mr. and Mrs. Charles Thompson of Abbotsford.

The bride, who was given in marriage by her father, wore a gown of white lace, designed with long sleeves, scalloped neck line and a floor length hoop skirt detailed with ruffled lace panels. A crown of sequins held her finger tip veil and white roses were arranged in a cascade bouquet to complete the bridal ensemble.

Attending the couple were Mr. and Mrs. Ray Holtz, brother-in-law and sister of the groom, Charles Severson and Mrs. Orville Soyk, brother and sister of the bride, and Mr. and Mrs. William Fisher, uncle and aunt of the groom.

The groom’s niece, Miss Linda Holtz, and cousin, Miss Beverly Fisher, served as flower girls and the bride’s nephew, Larry Soyk, was ring bearer.

Ushers were Roger Severson and William Lehman.

The bridal attendants were dressed alike in shrimp colored gowns of lace and net over satin, designed with lace jackets and hoop skirts. Their head dresses were made with small matching veils, attached to a crown trimmed with white pearls. They carried cascade bouquets of white carnations interspersed with bunches of frosty, green grapes.

White lace and taffeta dresses, with tiers of lace on the floor length hoop skirts were chosen for the little flower girls. They wore white floral head bands with a nose length veil and carried bouquets of white carnations.

Mrs. Severson wore a rose colored lace dress and a white feather hat to her daughter’s wedding. Mrs. Thompson selected blue lace and a white hat. Both mothers had orchid corsages.

During the ceremony, Barthell Bakkum, cousin of the bride, of Waukon, Iowa, sang "The Lord’s Prayer," "The Wedding Prayer," and "O, Promise Me."

Dinner for about 200 guests was served in the church hall where a reception was also held. In the evening, a wedding dance was held at Mayfield Inn, Mayfield.

When the new Mr. and Mrs. Thompson return from their honeymoon trip, they will make their home in Abbotsford with the groom’s parents.

Mr. Thompson is employed at the Holtz Feed Store and Mrs. Thompson is employed at the Ben Franklin Store at Marshfield.

Relatives from Abbotsford who attended the wedding included Mr. and Mrs. Ray Thompson, Mr. and Mrs. Ray Holtz and family, and Mr. and Mrs. Orville Soyk and family. Other relatives were from Waukon and Waterville, Iowa, Madison, Milwaukee, Cedarburg, Belleville, Mayfield, and Rockford, Wis., and Ft. Hauchuca, Arizona.
