Lowe, Roy Mr. & Mrs. (60th Anniv. - 23 Nov. 1960)

 

Mr. and Mrs. Roy Lowe began the celebration of their 60th wedding anniversary with attendance at church, Sunday. Both are members of the Presbyterian church.

 

Dinner was served at noon at their home in Abbotsford to members of the family and a few friends.

 

Roy Lowe and Clara Jones were married at Hixton Nov. 23, 28, 1900, at the home of her parents. Mr. Lowe taught in Trempealeau and Jackson county schools and for a number of years, was a railroad mail clerk and later operated a farm. Mrs. Lowe was a skilled seamstress.

 

In 1952, the Lowes retired from farming and moved to Abbotsford.

 

They have four children, Sherman, of Milwaukee; Wesley, of Eau Claire; Mrs. Howard (Ruth) Cendt, of Wausau; and Mrs. Victor (Kathryn) Christenson, of Marshfield. A daughter, Beulah, died at the age of 12. There are nine grand children and 18 great grandchildren.

 

Mr. Lowe, one of a family of nine, has one brother living, and Mrs. Lowe, one of a family of seven, has two sisters and one brother.

 

Those who were here for Sunday’s celebration included: Mr. and Mrs. Sherman Lowe, and their four children of Milwaukee; Mr. and Mrs. Howard Cendt and Mr. and Mrs. Roger Eckes of Wausau; Mr. and Mrs. Victor Christensen, Mr. and Mrs. Otto Shackelman and two daughters, and Mr. and Mrs. Lavern Knoll and son, of Marshfield; Mr. and Mrs. Earl Jones of Hixton; and Mr. and Mrs. Seal Thompson of Whitehall; and the Rev. and Mrs. L. F. Faivre and Lynn, Mr. and Mrs. Ben Merwin, of Abbotsford.

 

Mrs. Roy Peterson and Mrs. Morris Mantor, Abbotsford, and Miss Alta Mantor of Milwaukee called in the afternoon.

 

The honored couple was presented with a purse of money and other gifts.
