Rude, John (1 July 1884 - 4 January 1959)
John Rude, 74, 702 W 2nd St., Neillsville, died Saturday at the Methodist Hospital in Rochester, Minn., where he had been a patient since December 17.
Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon from the Congregational Church, with the Rev. Frank B. Harcey officiating. Burial was made in the Neillsville City Cemetery.
Mr. Rude, son of the late John and Martha (Strand) Rude, was born July 1, 1884, in Neillsville. He received his education in the Neillsville schools and for many years taught school in the Town of Lynn. He later taught at Hell’s Academy in Portland, Ore.
On August 15, 1917, he entered service at Ft. Sheridan, Ill. He served in World War I as sergeant with the supply company of the 342nd Infantry Division in France from September 1918, through June 1919, and was discharged from service at Camp Grant, Ill., July 16, 1919.
He then became associated with a school book supply company in Oregon. Later he came back to Wisconsin and went into the same type of business for himself, staying in that occupation until his death.
Mr. Rude was a member of the Congregational Church, Neillsville Lodge, No. 163, F. and A. M.; the Neillsville Chapter, No. 66 R. A. M., the Neillsville Commandery, No. 36; and the Eau Claire Consistory. He also was a member of the Wilson-Heintz Post No. 2241, and the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
In June of 1930, he was married to Lorena Kuehl at St. Paul, Minn.
He is survived by his wife and a daughter, Mrs. William (Barbara) Stucki, Madison. Two grandchildren and a brother, George Rude of Neillsville, also survive.
The Bergemann Funeral Home made funeral arrangements.
Pallbearers were: Frank E. Brown, Leo Foster, D. E. Peters, Dave Parry, H. M. Smith, and Arnold Yankee.
"Jesus Lover of My Soul" and "Lead Kindly Light" were sung by vocalist, Mrs. Robert D. Peters, accompanied by Mrs. Jess W. Scott.
