Friemoth, Milton (16 March 1935 – 11 December 2023)

Milton Friemoth was born on March 16, 1935, to Frank and Margaret (Chart) Friemoth. He was the 12th of their 16 children.

His first date with Yvonne Senz was at their Freshman Homecoming dance and they have been together ever since. They were married on April 22, 1954, at St. Peter's Catholic Church in East Troy. They began their married life on the 'House on the Hill', a property his father owned. After the birth of their 9th child his Dad moved them to the 'Home Farm' since he felt they needed more space. He farmed with his father until his Dad's passing and subsequently moved his 12 children to Neillsville, on December 31st, 1968. They went on to have 3 more children, making their family complete with 8 sons and 7 daughters.

Milton loved fishing, hunting, card playing and wine, jerky and sausage making. His wife shares that he loved to do everything big. If 30 lbs. of sausage was the goal, he thought 60 lbs. was even better. This trend of going 'big' explains his large family. He was an avid competitor in local tractor pulls, winning many trophies that he dispersed to his children in his later years. He was a town of York board member and then became chairman, serving the township for 16 years. After he retired from farming, he began playing cards on Monday evenings and Thursday afternoons with a group of like-minded friends (Tony Langreck, Terry Marty, Joe Boden, LeRoy Lezotte, Butch Walter, Jim Smagacz, and Al Spaete), enjoying conversation and a bit of his homemade wine, to make losing not so hard to handle.

The cornerstone of his life was his Catholic Faith and his family. The love he shared with his wife Yvonne is an inspiration to his children and grandchildren alike. He was a proud farmer and raised his children with a love of God, dedication to family and a wonderful work ethic that has helped them throughout their lives.

He is preceded in death by his parents Frank and Margaret, his mother-in-law Ann Deist and step-father-in-law Roy Deist, his father-in-law Theodore Senz, brothers Fritz, Robert, Jim, Leo, Vincent and his sisters Margie, Betty, Bonnie, Phylis, Rose Marie and Joan.

He is survived by his wife Yvonne, children; Roy (Sandy), Don (Rhonda), Lynn (Rick) Sebesta, Kim, Kenny (Pam), Patti (Jacob) Nordman, Brian (Barb), Jill, Sandy (Kevin) Mayer, Jack (Faye), Steve, Jeff (Deanna), Wayne (Dyan), Bev, and Jenny, (38) grandchildren, (75) great-grandchildren and (6) great-great grandchildren. His nieces and nephews, many of whom he has adopted in his heart after the loss of their parents.

A special thanks to the doctors, nurses, and staff at Marshfield Medical Center Neillsville location for the great and compassionate care he received. A special thanks for their patience with the huge number of family who needed to be with him during his last days.

A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial for Milton will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, December 16, 2023, at St. Mary Catholic Church in Neillsville. The Celebrant will be Fr. Greg Michaud. Music will be provided by Rebekah Lehn, organist and St. Mary's Choir. Interment will be in St. Mary Catholic Cemetery in Neillsville at a later date. Visitation will be from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m., Friday and from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m., Saturday at the church. A Knights of Columbus Rosary Service will be held at 7:30 p.m., Friday also at the church.

Rued, Lois Audrey (12 October 1929 – 10 December 2023)

Lois Audrey (Hoffman) Rued, age 94, entered this world on October 12, 1929, being born to Oscar and Minnie Hoffeditz. She received the name of Mabel Minnie. She had four living brothers, plus one that died as a baby. She was the little girl that her family wanted. However, a few days after her birth, her mother died. Soon she was adopted by Frank and Anna Frances Hoffman. Frank was a farmer; he was also teaching school where the two oldest Hoffeditz sons were attending, so they knew of the heartbreak the family felt. Frank and his wife had one grown son F. DeWitt, so they all agreed to give this new baby a home. They changed her name to Lois DeWitt and gave her the middle name of Audrey.

DeWitt later moved back to Iowa, where the family was originally from, and when Lois was seven years old, her mother died. When Lois was in the 6th grade, the family moved to Iowa, living on an adjoining farm of DeWitt’s and his wife Marion.

Lois graduated from Maynard High School in 1947; she attended college in Cedar Falls, and taught school for one year. She did several other things in her younger years, such as being a nanny in Oak Park, Illinois, working in a radio factory. She also worked in a hospital, in the obstetrics section and working as a housekeeper. While working in a factory, she was required to provide a birth certificate to prove her American citizenship. It was then they found out for a certainty, that she was adopted. She met two of her birth brothers, who had also been adopted and in a trip back to Wisconsin to visit them, she met her husband-to-be, Stephen Rued.

When Lois was working as the second cook in Western Home, Cedar Falls, Iowa, she and Steve were married on Dec. 6, 1957, in the chapel there, by the Rev. Dr. Ward B. Tarr. And so she came back to Wisconsin, to spend the rest of her life. She and Steve had one son, Alan David. After Allen was school age, Lois went to work as a laundress at the Havenet Nursing Home in Owen. From there she transferred to the Frederick Post Company, which became Teledyne, and from there she retired. She also helped on the farm, in the fields and in the barn. She always had cats that she loved and a dog that was always part of the family too. Steve passed away on Friday, April 13, 2012, after 54 years with Lois. She went to join him on December 10, 2023.

Lois is survived by her son, Alan David, many nieces and nephews, both from her birth family, her adopted family and Steve’s family.

She was predeceased by both sets of parents, her father & mother-in-law, Paul & Marion Rued, all of her brothers, her best friend, Lucy Kaehn, her niece, Mary Anne Hoffman and her nephew, Jonathan Whitney.

Lois enjoyed life; a good joke, a happy laugh, a love of God- which she occasionally shared with friends and her favorite job was driving for her Mennonite friends. She will be missed.

A Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, December 15, 2023, at Maurina-Schilling Funeral Home in Owen. Scott Johnson will officiate. Interment will follow at St. Paul’s Norwegian Cemetery in the Town of Hoard. Family and friends are welcome from 9:00 a.m. until time of service Friday at the funeral home.

Donated Trees Ship Out to the Troops (2023)

Neillsville area tree farmers Steve Knoop of R&S Tree Farms and Paul Vine of Vine’s Christmas Trees delivered 80 trees to a Stevens Point drop-off site that will be sent to Altus Air Force Base in Altus, OK, and Offuit Air Force Base in Omaha, NE. Submitted photo

Neillsville-area tree farmers Steve Knoop of R&S Tree Farms and Paul Vine of Vine’s Christmas Trees received a donation of trees from farms across Wisconsin to Trees for Troops. The pair donated a total of 80 trees, delivered to a Stevens Point drop-off site. This year, R&S and Vines trees are being sent to Altus Air Force Base in Altus, OK and Offuit Air Force Base in Omaha, NB.

The Trees for Troops program supplies Christmas trees to military members and their families across the country. For service members who have to stay on base and cannot be home for Christmas, or families with a loved one serving overseas, the trees bring a bit of holiday cheer.

This year, Wisconsin tree growers donated over 800 trees shipped to 77 military bases. Since the program’s inception in 2005, Trees for Troops has delivered nearly a quarter-million trees to U.S. troops.

“We are both proud to help brighten the Christmas of those who serve our country,” said Knoop.
