Washburn Township (19 March 1959)
We are digging out this morning (Monday) from under another snowstorm which wasn’t near as severe as the storm of March 5, and 6. There was less snowfall this time, but Sunday’s severe wind piled up what snow there was. We were lucky not to get the snow they got in the southern part of the state.
Mr. and Mrs. Louie Matousek, Milwaukee, who spent the weekend with her mother, Mrs. Frank Short, and his brother Frank Matousek and family, got snowed in until Monday morning. They were unable to make the trip home Sunday due to the severe storm in the Milwaukee area. With warnings to stay off roads, they didn’t risk the trip home until Monday.
Mr. and Mrs. Wallace Krause and daughter, Milwaukee, also spent the weekend with their parents, Mr. and Mrs. Irving Stevens and Mr. and Mrs. Carl Krause. They were unable to return home until Monday.
Mrs. Leon Kapfer, daughter, Jerri, and son, Jack, Janesville, also spent the weekend with Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Kapfer. They started home in the storm Sunday morning, so it isn’t known yet whether they had difficulty getting home or not. They all came Friday night and had the appearance of a beautiful weekend.
Mr. and Mrs. Don Stewart and family, Verona, started to Neillsville Saturday morning to visit her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Short, but got the storm warnings after they were about half way, then decided to return home as big clouds were beginning to roll in.
