Clouse, Charles (30 JUN 1864 - 28 JUL 1951)

 

Charles Clouse, 87, a resident of this community for 84 years, died at his home in the city (Loyal, Clark Co., Wis.) Saturday morning, July 28, 1951.

 

He was born at Iron Ridge, Dodge Co., June 30, 1864.  He came with his parents to Clark County at the age of 2 ½ years and settled on a farm in Loyal Township.  In March of 1883 he was married to Edith Mack.  She preceded him in death in January 1913.  On Jan. 27, 1917 he married Mrs. Lillie Spry.  After residing for several years on a small farm just south of Loyal, they moved into the city in 1930, where they have since lived.

 

He is survived by his wife; two daughters, Mrs. Lida Boldt, Milwaukee, and Mrs. Warren (Nellie) Newell, Mount Vernon, Ohio; and four sons, Lee, Loyal; Ira, Amarillo, Texas; Irvin, Mount Angels, Ore; and Louis, Taylor.

 

Other survivors include 36 grandchildren, 45 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.  Two children and two brothers, and a sister preceded him in death.

 

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. last week Tuesday in the Methodist Church.  Mr. Clouse was a member of the Methodist Church.

 

The Rev. Lee Holmes, assisted by the Rev. L. L. Gillette, officiated, and burial was in the Loyal Cemetery.

 

Pallbearers were Frank Degenhardt, Hastings Baird, Calvin Young, Bernard Clouse, James Vogel, and Jack Clouse.

 

Mrs. Norman Kuehling, Geraldine Clouse, Annabelle Clouse, Mrs. Edgar Verhalen, Mrs. Bernard Clouse, Mrs. Hastings Baird, Mrs. Emma Carberry, and Mrs. William Butterbrodt, were in charge of floral arrangements.

 

Mrs. Ray Prior and Mrs. Calvin Prior sang "In the Garden" and "Beyond the Sunset."  They were accompanied by Mrs. Albert Andersen at the organ.

 

Out of town persons attending the services were Mrs. Lida Boldt, and James Vogel and son, Milwaukee; Mrs. Emma Carberry, Kaukauna; Mr. and Mrs. Ed Scholz, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Holtz, Mrs. Elsie Sasman, and Mrs. Julia Kroll, all of Appleton; Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Rupp, Silver Lake; Mr. and Mrs. Home Spry, Marshfield.

 

Russell Spry, Chippewa Falls; Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Spry, and Mrs. Dora Beechler, Granton; Mr. and Mrs. Chester Spry, and Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Dunn, Neillsville; Phelps Spry, Chili; Mrs. Bessie Spry, Nekoosa; Mrs. Yvonne Vechinski and Mrs. Jessie Larson, Port Edwards; Mr. and Mrs. Louis Clouse and family, Taylor; Mr. and Mrs. John Haskin, Wausau; Mr. and Mrs. A. C. Fox and Mrs. Ruth Gettman, Hixton; and Mr. and Mrs. Hastings Baird, Greenwood.

 

Mrs. Amelia Clouse and daughter, Mrs. Henry Laffe, Humbird; Mrs. Howard Coleman, Wis. Rapids; Mrs. Harry Reigel, Madison; and Mrs. William Vollard, Taylor.
