Poehnelt, Irene (23 AUG 1925 - 12 SEPT 2010)

 

Irene A. Poehnelt, 85, passed away on Sunday, Sept. 12, 2010, at Saint Joseph’s Hospital, Marshfield. Visitation will be held at Cuddie Funeral Home, Loyal, on Thursday, Sept. 16, from 4-8-p.m., with a 7 p.m. rosary service, and at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church, Loyal, on Friday, Sept. 17, 2010 from 10 a.m. until the time of funeral services at 11 a.m. Rev. Jerome Naduvathaniyil will officiate and burial will follow in St. Anthony’s Catholic Cemetery. Pallbearers will be her grandsons: Paul Zvolena, Dan Zvolena, Rob Poehnelt, Jason Poehnelt, Tom Poehnelt, Darrin Wearing and Andre Poehnelt.

 

Irene Ann Weisgalla was born in Independence, on Aug. 23, 1925, the daughter of Simon and Elizabeth (nee Mish) Wiersgalla. She was raised on the family farm and received her education in the Independence area. She moved to Milwaukee as a young woman, where she worked as a waitress for two years. She married Joseph Poehnelt on May 1, 1946, at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, Medford. They began raising their family and farmed in Medford until 1954, when they moved to Loyal. She was a homemaker and helped her husband operate their business, Loyal Oil Company, until retiring in 1987. After retiring, they continued to reside in Loyal until the present time. She was a member of St. Anthony’s Catholic Church and its PCCW. She had many interests, but especially loved spending time with her family, playing cards, bowling, ceramics, making Christmas ornaments, crafts, gardening and canning.

 

She will be dearly missed by her husband, Joe, Loyal, her children, Sharon (Vern) Volovsek, Rice Lake, Sandy (Byron) Nestler, Cordova, Tenn., Renee Lebkicker, Severn, Md., Jerry (Joan) Poehnelt, Eagle, Duane (Julie) Poehnelt, Loyal, Dean (Shirley( Poehnelt, Reston, Va., Pat (Ted) Zvolena, Loyal, Mike (Tiki) Poehnelt, DeForest, Bonnie Duda, Phoenix, Ariz., Terri (Tony) Inhof, Hartland, and Darla (Alan) Helvig, Glendale, Ariz.; 28 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; one sister, Bernice Bautch, Oak Creek; and one brother, Albert Wiersgalla, Whitehall.

 

Preceding her in death were her parents; one granddaughter, Dawn Lebkicker, and three brothers, John, Albin and Ralph Wiersgalla.

 

In lieu of flowers, contributions to St. Anthony’s Catholic Church would be greatly appreciated.
