Samuel Wesley Sturtz, son of the late Solomon and Eve Sturtz, passed away on Monday, Feb. 28, at his home in Sparta at the age of 84 years, seven months and 29 days.
Mr. Sturtz was born on June 29, 1864, at Bedford, Pa., where he spent his early manhood. In 1894 he married Miss Rhoda Oliva Rollins at Bedford. They moved to Franklin Grove, Ill., where they lived until 1903 and where their two sons, James (now of Granton) and Howard (now of Loyal), were born. They then moved to Ocheydan, Ia., where they lived until 1907, when the took up residence on a farm northwest of Greenwood. Mrs. Sturtz passed away on May 10, 1922.
In 1930 Mr. Sturtz was married to Mrs. Weston Haefner at Owen. They lived on the farm until October 1948, moving then to Sparta, his home at the time of his death.
Surviving besides his second wife and two sons, are four grandchildren, one graet grandchild and one brother of Lavale, Md. Two brothers and five sisters preceded him in death.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. last Thursday at Grace Methodist chuch in Greenwood, the Rev. Lee H. Holmes officiating. Burial was in Braun Settlement cemetery.
The hymns "The Lord Is My Shepherd" and "Ivory Palaces," were sung by Mrs. Albert Dahl and Mrs. Chal Perkins, with Mrs. William and Mrs. William Olson accompanying on the piano.
The pallbearers were John Seibold, Jake and John Speich, John Longridge, Ed Braun and William Schlinsog. Those in charge of the flowers were the granddaughters, Mrs. Earl Shutter and Mrs. Norman E. Miller.
Those from away who attended the funeral were: Henry Sturtz of Lavale, Md.; Harold Sturtz and Clay Sturtz of Amboy,Ill.; Mrs. William Purdy, Mrs. George Christenson, Mr. ans Mrs. Douglas Christenson and Mr. and Mrs. Earl Shutter, all of Sparta; Mrs. Percis Vine and Mrs. Willis Disch of Monroe; Melvin Haefner of Rock Falls, Ill.; Mrs. Herman Gandt and son, Jack, of Marshfield; Mrs. Bessie Schlenkert and Mrs. Velda Hyatt of Madison; Mr. and Mrs. Ed Nourse of Sheboygan Falls, and Mr. and Mrss. James Sturtz and Mr. and Mrs. Norman Miller of Granton.
To the survivors, the Tribune extends its sympathy.
