Opelt, Josh (Heroism - 2021)

During the Granton Area Fie and Rescue’s May meeting, Josh Opelt was recognized for heroic actions he took earlier this year. The Val and Dawn Dahlke home caught fire Feb. 22 and was destroyed beyond repair. “When the fire department pulled up, the house was fully engulfed and Josh [Opelt] and Omar [Young] were pulling the occupants out of the house,” wrote Granton Fire Chief Gary Eibergen. To honor Opelt and Young, fire department members drove the fire trucks to each of their homes to present them with the Distinguished Service Award. Shown above are (front left) Opelt and (front right) Eibergen, along with Pat Wolf, Pete Helios, Roger Nitschke, Tom Gorst, Ray Robers, Keith Eibergen, Bev Friemoth, Troy Moen, Chester Oldham, Dwayne Bandt, Aaron Wolf and Seth Naedler.
