Rannow, Arnold L. (26 JUN 1920 - 1 OCT 2010)
Arnold L. Rannow, 90, of Colby, passed away Friday, Oct. 1, 2010, at the Colonial Center in Colby with his family by his side. His funeral service will be held Monday, Oct. 4, 2010, at Zion Lutheran Church in Colby at 11 a.m. The Rev. Mark Neumann will officiate. Visitation will be held at the church Monday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service. Burial will take place at the Colby Memorial Cemetery in the Town of Colby.
Arnold was born June 26, 1920, in Silver Lake, Minn., to Otto and Clara (Baumgarten) Rannow. He graduated from Colby High School in 1939. On July 30, 1949, he married Joyce Heglund in Ashland, at Nidaros Lutheran Church. They celebrated their 61st wedding anniversary July 30, 2010.
Arnold, along with his brother Howard and later, his son Mark, owned Rannow Cabinet and Supply in Colby. He enjoyed spending time fishing at their cabin on Lake Holcombe, hunting in Wisconsin and Montana, gardening, traveling and spending time with his family -- especially his grandchildren. Arnold was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church, American Legion, a long time fireman with the Colby Fire Department and was an active charter member of the Colby Lions Club, receiving a Melvin Jones Fellow award.
Arnold is lovingly survived by his wife, Joyce, of Colby; one son, Mark (Kathy) Rannow of Colby; and two daughters, Barbara (Daniel) Olson of Eugene, Ore., and Bronwyn (Ken) Weber of West Bend. He is also survived by six grandchildren: Bret (Gina) Olson, Travis (Ruti Lamont) Olson, Jessica (fiance Jens Griesshammer) Rannow, Jaime Rannow, Christie (Joseph) Degnitz and Ashley Weber; and great-grandchildren, twins Madilyn and Sophia Olson. He is further survived by one sister-in-law Esther Rannow, brothers-in-law Clifford Rosinski and Arthur Heglund, many nieces, nephews, an aunt and many cousins and friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents; brothers Howard and Ott; a sister, Leona "Penny" Rosinski; mother-in-law Rose Heglund; father-in-law Arthur Heglund; and brother-in-law Eugene Heglund.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial will be established in his name at a later date.
