Noeldner Sisters (Nashville - 1959)

This tale of Clark County’s Noeldner sisters has all the ingredients of a real-life Cinderella story.

All that is needed to complete it is a victory in the national "Grand Ole Opry" contests in Nashville, Tenn., Friday night.

The sisters, widely known amateur musical act of the area, got their chance earlier this week.  Competing over station WDLB, Marshfield, they were selected as alternates for one of six national regions.  The principals were not able to enter the finals; and the Noeldner sisters were called upon.

They will fly to Nashville today (Thursday), and will be accompanied by Jack Thornton of Neillsville, general manager of the sponsoring station, Mrs. Thornton and their two sons, Gary and Dave.  They plan a stop enroute at Madison, where the Noeldner sisters have a 9:30 a.m. appointment with Gov. Gaylord Nelson. They hope to carry greetings from the nation’s dairyland to the governor of Tennessee.

At the end of the sisters’ rainbow is a contract to record, and to appear with the Grand Ole Opry Program.

They expect to return home Sunday by airplane - home being either Greenwood or Loyal, depending how you look at it.  The Noeldner farm is on Rt. 1, Greenwood and the girls attend Loyal schools.

The five girls are: Mary, 19, Carol, 17, Christine, 15, Beatrice, 13, and Helen, 11.  Their parents are Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Noeldner.
