Helen Olga Horvat was born Feb. 20, 1919, in Willard, the daughter of John and Johanna (Godec) Horvat. She grew up and received her education in the Willard area, and completed her GED at the age of 71.
Helen was united in marriage to Valentine F. Krainz on Jan. 21, 1942, at Holy Family Catholic Church in Willard. She was a homemaker and farm wife, working alongside her husband on the farm. In addition to farm life, Helen also baby-sat her grandchildren, cleaned the church in Willard and worked at the Loyal Cannery for a few summers. She had many interests, but especially loved spending time with her family and friends -- to which she was very devoted -- crocheting, sewing, music, fishing, gardening, house plants, bingo and playing cards.
She was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church and its CCW, KSKJ Lodge, Willard Historical Society, Clark County Merry Homemakers for 50 years, N.A.R.F., Rock Dam Rod & Gun Club and was a 4-H sewing leader.
She will be dearly missed by her children, Donna (Allan) Harbort of Brookfield, Robert (Mary Ann) Krainz of Willard, Larry (Cheryl) Krainz of Marshfield and Ruth (Darwin) Zwieg of Willard; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews and many friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Val, on Nov. 19, 2006; one son, Valentine F. Krainz Jr.; and her siblings, Mary Klune, John Horvat, Joe Horvat, Jennie Tolaney, Louis and Rudy Horvat.
