Pflughoeft, Art (Injury by a Board - 1959)
Art Pflughoeft, 61, who has been "pushing boards into a circular saw for 38 years and never had a kick-back," had one last Wednesday afternoon.
The board hit him in the abdomen with such force it knocked him backward against a truck in the B & F Machine shop, where he works.
While there was no puncture, internal injury resulted which made immediate surgery necessary. He is in the Memorial Hospital.
Mr. Pflughoeft, who has been employed by the machine shop since 1942, was sawing Popple boards which were to make Pallets for the Nelson Muffler Corporation. The board going through the saw apparently split.
