Ballerstein, Robert J. (September, 27, 1925 - September 26, 2010)

 

Robert J. Ballerstein, 84, Edgar, died at the Colonial Center in Colby on September 26, 2010. 

 

Robert was born September 27, 1925, to Herman and Laura (Hoefs) Ballertsein in Wausau. 

 

He graduated from Colby High School. In 1944, he enlisted in the United States Army and served through World War II.  On August 20, 1949, he married Alice Wolff at St. John’s "High Steeple" Lutheran Church near Edgar. 

 

Together they dairy farmed in the town of Frankfort from 1949 to 1989. He was a member of Edgar VFW. He enjoyed playing dart-ball, wood working, reading and fox hunting. 

 

He is survived by his wife, Alice Ballerstein, Colby; children, Roger (Sharon) Ballerstein, Edgar, Doris (Peter) Scherr, Stratford, Richard (Linda) Ballertsein, Eau Claire, Gayle (Gary) Krogwold, Amherst Junction, Donald (Delores) Ballerstein, Wisconsin Rapids, and Linda (Greg) Mueller, Edgar; 14 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; siblings Delbert Ballerstein, Colby, Audrey (Delmar) Telschow, Edgar, Erna Evans, Weston and Aral (Robert) Luetschwager, Rib Mountain. 

 

He is preceded in death by his parents; one son Ronald Ballerstein; and his brother, Herman Ballerstein. 

 

Burial was at St. John’s Lutheran Cemetery in Edgar on September 29. A memorial gathering took place at St. John’s Lutheran "High Steeple" Church on Wednesday. The Reverend Jeffery Lambrecht presided. 

 

The Maurina-Schilling Funeral Home in Abbotsford assisted the family with funeral arrangements.
