Papenfuss, Max E. #2 (1882? - 5? JUN 1956)
Max E. Papenfuss, 74, town of Colby (Clark Co., Wis.) farmer, was found dead Saturday afternoon in the barn on his farm 2 ½ miles south of Abbotsford. The body was hanging in the barn. Authorities termed the death a suicide.
Search began when a rural carrier reported that mail delivered to a box at the Papenfuss farm had not been disturbed since about June 4. Jim Nikolay, postal employee, and two brothers, Frank and John Nikolay, the latter being district attorney for Clark County found the body hanging from a beam in the barn.
John Bergemann, coroner, and Frank Dobes, undersheriff, after investigating the death, said that Papenfuss apparently had taken his life at least four days previous to discovery of the body.
Papenfuss lived on his farm alone. He was unmarried. His only survivor is a brother, George, also of Abbotsford.
