Matthews, Sophie Dora (5 October 1911 - 12 October 2010)
Sophie D. Matthews, 99, of Neillsville, formerly of Milwaukee, died Tuesday, Oct. 12, 2010, at the Neillsville Care and Rehabilitation Center in Neillsville.
Sophie Dora Matthews was born Oct. 5, 1911, at home in the Town of Grant to Bruno and Anna Dudei. Following her education until her retirement she worked as a quality control technician at the Amron Corporation, a factory in Waukesha. After her retirement, she lived in Neillsville for 45 years enjoying the company of two brothers and a sister.
She had a passion for life. She passed this along through the caring and sharing with her family and others and talked often about her family. She enjoyed traveling, gardening and quilting activities with her family.
She was a member of the Calvary Lutheran Church, Neillsville.
She is survived by her son, Allen, and his wife, Sharon, of Scituate, RI; four granddaughters and two great-grandchildren.
Preceding her in death were her parents; two brothers, Harold Dudei and Hubert Dudei; and a sister, Renate Beyer.
Funeral services for Sophie were at 1 p.m. Monday, Oct. 18, 2010, at the Buchanan Funeral Home, Neillsville with visitation from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Pastor Al Houts officiated. Interment was in Zion American Lutheran Church Cemetery in the Town of Grant, Clark County.
