Meske, Mabel Marion (6 April 1922 - 16 October 2010)

 

On Sweetest Day, Oct. 16, 2010, God made a call. "Mabel, I need an Angel. I have work for you to do and I need you."  Mabel was blessed with her wings.

 

Mabel Marion Meske was born April 6, 1922, in Neillsville, the daughter of Herman and Minnie (Finder) Meske. She attended Neillsville schools. Over the years she was employed by Otto Lewerenz at his restaurant and sweet shop, Auto Test in Neillsville, Marshfield Homes for a short time, the Neillsville High School as a custodian and Cenex until her retirement.

 

In her spare time, Mabel enjoyed fishing, gardening, roller skating, woodworking and the outdoors.

 

She is survived by two sisters, Ella Holtz and Bertha Grottke, both of Neillsville; a special companion, Donald E. Wagner of Neillsville; a sister-in-law, Vada Meske of Marshfield; nieces, Virginia Thoma of Neillsville, Jean Cecil of Huntley, IL, Carol Johnson of Humbird, Diane Bloch of Manawa and Karen Hurless of Marshfield; and a nephew, Roger (Linda) Grottke of Neillsville. Mabel is also survived by numerous other nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

 

She was preceded in death by a brother, Albert Meske, and a niece, Doris (Holtz) Frederickson.

 

Funeral services for Mabel were held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 19, 2010, at St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Neillsville with visitation from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m.  Pastor Timothy Biebert officiated.  Music was provided by Sharon Nemitz, organist and St. John’s Children’s Choir.  Interment was in the Neillsville City Cemetery.

 

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Black River Hospice, 711 West Adams Street, Black River Falls, WI 54615, or St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, WI Synod, 711 W. 5th St. Neillsville, WI 54456

 

Casketbearers were: Andrew Denk, Benjamen Denk, David Grottke, Louie Metcalf, Larry Metcalf and Mike Thoma.
