Widmer, Emma #2 (19 NOV 1882 - 16 AUG 1956)
It has pleased God to call unto Himself the soul of Mrs. Emma Widmer, nee Isler, on Thursday evening, Aug. 16, 1956, at the Victory Memorial Hospital in Stanley. Her end was not unexpected, as she had been suffering from a malignant illness even before the passing of her husband over five months ago. The departed attained the age of 73 years, 8 months and 28 days.
She was born Nov. 19, 1882 at Zurich, Switzerland, the daughter of Johann and Anna Isler. Baptized and confirmed in the Swiss Reformed Church, she became a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Withee, less than twenty five years ago. She was married on July 16, 1904 in Milwaukee to Fred Widmer, who preceded her in death earlier this year on March 11.
Of the eight children that were born to the union five preceded the mother into eternity. To lose so many was a sore trial for her and her husband, but faith was strengthened and they read their Bible faithfully and praised the Lord, who had given and then taken again. She is survived by three children, Fred Widmer Jr., Withee, John Widmer, Milwaukee and Amelia, Mrs. Frank Stigen. There are four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren, also six brothers, Ernest, Otto, Bill, Gotthilf, John, and Jacob Isler, and one sister, Mrs. Anna Sauerteig.
During the past months she was hospitalized at Marshfield and Stanley and spent many weeks at the Havenet Nursing Home in Owen.
She was a pleasant devout Christian woman, always a liber giver for the Lord’s work, a faithful wife and mother.
Funeral services were held at the St. John’s Lutheran Church at Withee, Sunday afternoon, Aug. 19, at 2 o’clock, following the body’s lying in state at the Hoeper and Kraut Mortuary at Owen. Pallbearers were 2 grandsons, Gen Stigen and Warren Sachs, Earl Baehr, Elmer Buss, John Mikrut and Fred isler.
The Rev. Theodore Predoehl gave a comforting sermon and Mrs. Albert Petke sang a solo.
