Appleyard, Charles William (15 June 1890 - 26 August 1959)
Funeral services were conducted Saturday from the United Church of Christ for Charles William Appleyard, 69, of Rt. 3, Neillsville, who died Wednesday at Memorial Hospital. The Rev. Frank B. Harcey officiated, and burial was made in the Neillsville City Cemetery.
Mr. Appleyard, who had been ill for several years was born June 15, 1890, in Jefferson County, the son of the late Charles B. and Kate (Johnson) Appleyard. He received his education in Jefferson and Clark County schools, coming to Neillsville with his parents when he was 10 years old. The family located on a farm north of Neillsville, where he lived with his brother and sister-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Appleyard, most of his life. He never married.
He is survived by three sisters, Mrs. Mayme Imig, Neillsville; Mrs. Henry (Fannie) Markwardt, Neillsville; and Mrs. Warner (Anna) Mattson, Milwaukee; and a brother Fred.
He was a member of the First Congregational Church.
Pallbearers were: William Appleyard, Melvin Appleyard, Leland Appleyard, Dale Appleyard, Elton Imig and Louis Seif, all nephews of the deceased.
"In the Garden" and "Rock of Ages" were sung by Dale Appleyard, accompanied at the organ by Mrs. Jess Scott.
People from away here for the services were: Mr. and Mrs. William H. Appleyard and Mr. and Mrs. Warner Mattson, Milwaukee; Mr. and Mrs. Leland Appleyard, Eau Claire; Mr. and Mrs. Louis Seif and family, Wisconsin Rapids; and Frank Rucks, Berlin, Wis.
The Georgas Funeral Home made the arrangements.
