The riding horse contest at the Clark County Fair last Friday afternoon attracted several hundred spectators and much interest was shown in this new feature of the fair.

JoAnn Baker, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Elwyn baker of Pine Valley, won first place with her riding horse in the contest for English or western horses, two-years old or over.  Lillian Persah, who lives with Mr. and Mrs. John Balcer on their farm near Thorp, placed second.  Galen Ellenbeike of Dorchester placed third; David Fricke of Loyal, fourth; Dallas Wuethrich, son of Mr. and Mrs. John Wuethrich, fifth; Sarah Poertner of Columbia, sixth; Daniel Meyer of Loyal, seventh.

In the contest for English or Western horses, under two years old: Larry Meyer, Loyal, first; JoAnn Baker, Pine Valley, second; Allen Meyer, Loyal, third; Lola Buddenhagen, Neillsville, fourth; Joan Frenett, Thorp, Fifth; Robert Loos, Loyal, sixth.

In the Shetland pony class, Lee Giggee, son of Mr. and Mrs. Herman Giggee of the Town of Grant, placed first with his pony and halter under two years, and second on his riding pony over two years of age.  Lee, now 12, suffered polio when six weeks old in Champaign, Ill., and bulbar polio in Yankton, S.D., when six.  He has been caring for and riding Shetland ponies for a hobby and muscle-builder.
