Sturtz, Mrs. Samuel

The Rev. Lee H. Holmes conducted funeral rites at 2 o’clock Saturday afternoon, Mar.26, at Grace Methodist church in Greenwood for Mrs. Samuel Sturtz, who died on Mar. 23. Interment took place in the Greenwood cemetery.

The daughter of the Rev. E. S. and Finetta D. Anderson, the deceased was born in Vernon county on Nov. 25, 1868, and passed away at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Mildred Purdy, at Sparta on Mar. 22 at the age of 80 years, three months and 25 days, after an illness of a few months.

She was united in marriage to George J. Haefner on Nov. 29, 1888, at Rice Lake, where they resided for several years, later moving to farms in Vernon and Monroe counties and in 1915 to a farm at Greenwood. To this union were born five children: Lawson Haefner of Idaho, Mrs. Mildred Purdy of Sparta, Mrs. Percis Vine of Monroe, Melvin Haefner of Sterling, Ill., and Evan, who preceded her in death in 1919. Her husband passed away in 1921.

On Mar. 17, 1930, she was married to Samuel W/ Sturtz at Greenwood, where they lived until last October, when they moved to Sparta because of the advances ages and ill health. Mr. Sturtz passed away on Feb. 28, and she followed him in death three weeks later.

At the funeral, Mrs. Chal Perkins and Miss Evangeline Sheets sang "In the Garden" and "The Old Rugged Cross," with Mrs. William Olson as piano accompanist. Six grandsons from Sparta served as pallbearers.

Mr. and Mrs. Howard Sturtz and family of Loyal were among those who attended the funeral. Mr. Sturtz is a stepson of the deceased.

To the survivors, The Tribune extends its sympathy.
