Gilroy, Robert (11 OCT 1911 - 12 APR 1949)

 

Robert Edward Giloy, son of Phillip and Louise Zimmerman Giloy, was born in the town of Garden Valley, Jackson county, on Oct. 11, 1911, and passed away at Middle River sanitorium, near Superior, at 2:55 a.m. Tuesday, Apr. 12, after a brief illness. He was taken seriously ill on Mar. 19 and was taken to St. Joseph’s hospital in Marshfield and from there to the sanitorium, accompanied by his wife, who remained with him. His brothers and sisters also spent much time there with him. He attained the age of 37 years, six months and one day.

 

He was baptized and confirmed in St. John’s Evangelical and Reformed church in Humbird, and grew to young manhood on the home farm. Mr. Giloy was a World War ll veteran, serving in the 182nd Field Artillery Battery. He entered the service in April 1942, and was honorably discharged in December, 1946, having served three years and seven months, a year and a half of which was spent overseas.

 

On July 17, 1946, he was united in marriage to Grace Flood Duchow, and they made their home in Marshfield.

 

He leaves to mourn his passing: his wife and baby daughter, Gail Diane; two step-daughters, Connie and Judy: his aged father, Philip Giloy; five brothers, William, Clarence, Herbert, Vernon and Gerald, all of Humberg; three sisters, Mrs. Martin Fisher and Mrs. John Mueller of Spencer and Rosetta, at home. He was preceded in death by his mother and one sister.

 

The remains were taken to a funeral home in Neillsville and the funeral was held on Friday, Apr. 15, at St. John’s church in Humbird, conducted with full military honors, under the auspices of the American Legion post of Humbird. The Rev. Mr. Gausman gave the sermon, assisted by the Rev. Mr. Hohman. Three solos were sung by Harold Losey, accompanied by Mrs. Will Theiler at the organ.

 

Pallbearers were five brothers and a brother-in-law, Martin Fisher. Flower girls were betty Fisher, Jean Flood, Pauline Zimmerman and Marie Bemis. The body was laid to rest in Eastlawn cemetery in Alma Center.

 

Those from away attending the funeral were: Mr. and Mrs. Martin Fisher and children and Mr. and Mrs. John Mueller and son of Spencer, Mrs. Julia Bemis and two daughters of Neillsville, Mrs. Charles Rahm and Walter Giloy of Loyal, Mr. and Mrs. Rhinehart Zimmerman of Black River Falls, Mr. and Mrs. Fay Duxbury and Rhinehart Gower of Alma Center and many other relatives and friends.

 

The Tribune extends to the bereaved its sympathy in the loss of a beloved relative.
