Washburn Township (24 September 1959)

William Buddinger had the thumb on his right hand almost cut off in a corn chipper Thursday.  His doctor dressed the injury at Memorial Hospital and is trying to save it.

Mrs. Frank Short returned home Friday night after spending more than three weeks visiting her son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Louie Matousek, and her son, Roger, and his family in West Allis, and her daughter, Mrs. Raynor Vaughn, in Washington, D. C.

Mrs. Vaughn drove to West Allis the weekend of September 6, spent a few days at the Matousek and Roger Short homes.  Her mother accompanied her to her home in Washington, D. C., September 9, where she visited until Thursday afternoon, when she returned to Milwaukee via plane.  She spent Thursday night and Friday with her son-in-law and daughter, and the Matousek’s brought her home Friday night and spent the weekend here.  Mrs. Vaughn showed her mother many places of interest around Washington.

Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Short went to Verona Friday morning, where they took care of their grandchildren, Jovey, Jeffrey and Jana Stewart, while their parents, Mr. and Mrs. Don Stewart, and grandmother, Mrs. Frank Stewart, Verona, and Mrs. Maggie Dunkel, Madison, visited relatives in Plymouth, Ill. until Sunday.

Miss Nancy Spry, student in Whitewater, spent the weekend with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Spry.  Sunday she accompanied Donald Krause, a student at the University in Madison, to Whitewater.

Mr. and Mrs. Ray Waleske of Milwaukee visited Monday through Thursday at the Paul Lautenbach home.  Mrs. Waleske and Mr. Lautenbach are twins and during their visit here celebrated their birthday.

Mr. and Mrs. Ray Hoeft, Mr. and Mrs. Carl Drescher and family, Mrs. Ottelia Hoeft, and Mr. and Mrs. Ervin Anderegg and son, attended a family reunion of the Hoeft family Sunday at Camp Maquana, near Nelsonville.

Mr. and Mrs. Dan Palmer of Detroit, Mich., left Wednesday for their home after spending a week with her sisters, Mrs. Ollie Poler and Mrs. William Ottow.

Mr. and Mrs. Ollie Poler were Monday evening supper guests at the Harold Ottow home.

Mr. and Mrs. Sidney Seaquist and daughter, Milwaukee, were weekend guests at the H. C. Witte home.

Mr. and Mrs. Wesley Jahr and daughter of Marshfield called Sunday at the William Lehman home.

Mr. and Mrs. Henry Hubing were Sunday supper guests at the John Reinart home.

Mr. and Mrs. Irving Stevens called at the Elmer Kapfer home Sunday.

Several from this vicinity attended the festival at Granton Saturday night and Sunday.

A new flag pole has been erected at the Washburn School.
