Wenzel, Charles W. (23 JUL 1936 - 28 OCT 2010)
SPENCER -- Charles W. Wenzel, 74, of Spencer died on Thursday afternoon, Oct. 28, 2010, at Ministry Saint Joseph's Hospital in Marshfield. He suffered a massive heart attack last Friday evening.
Memorial funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 2, 2010, at St. John's Lutheran Church in Spencer with Rev. Rebekah Tarras officiating. Burial will be in the West Spencer Cemetery in Spencer.
Visitations will be from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday, Nov. 1, 2010, at the Rembs Funeral Home in Marshfield and again from 10 a.m. until time of services Tuesday at the church.
Charles was born July 23, 1936, to Robert and Lillian (Gotz) Wenzel in Marshfield. He graduated from Spencer High School in 1954.
He served in the United States Army at Fort Hood, Texas, from Oct. 27, 1959, until his honorable discharge on Feb. 9, 1962.
Charles worked at Spencer Sport Products as a supply clerk from 1962-65 and then at the Kohler Company in Kohler as a grinder operator from 1965-71.
In 1971, Chuck and his brother Bob bought Spencer Bowl and operated the bowling alley until it was destroyed by fire on Sept. 6, 1995, after which he retired.
He was united in marriage to Donna L. Dunbar on Jan. 7, 1983, in Marshfield.
He was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Spencer. His hobbies were fishing, bowling and enjoying weekends at his cabin on Soo Lake in Phillips.
Chuck is survived by his wife, Donna, two sons, Travis and Jason of Spencer, and his sister, Karen (Ron) Kupfer of Underwood, Minn. He is further survived by a brother-in-law, Donald Griepentrog of Spencer, two sisters-in-law, Lois Wenzel of Hawkins and Sally Wenzel of Spencer, along with numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers, Wilbur, November 1933, Gordon, February 2002, Robert, July 2010, and Fred in August 2010; one sister Elizabeth Griepentrog, May 2007.
He will be dearly missed by his family and friends.
