Halterman, Phyllis M. (7 February 1952 - 7 October 2010)

 

Phyllis M. Halterman, age 58, formerly of Stanley, WI passed away Thursday, October 7, 2010, in Madison, WI.

 

A Celebration of Life was held on Monday, October 11, 2010, at 6:00 p.m. at Trinity Christian Fellowship, Stanley, WI.  Friends and family were invited to come and share their memories and stories of Phyllis’ unforgettably full life from 4:00 - 6:00 p.m. at the church.

 

Phyllis was born February 7, 1952, at Victory Hospital, Stanley, WI, the daughter of Donald and Ilene (Hugdahl) Halterman, Sr.

 

She grew up in Stanley and graduated from Stanley-Boyd High School in 1970, continuing her education at the Eau Claire Cosmetology School, graduating in 1971. She then went on to work in Durand, WI, shortly thereafter coming back to Stanley, working part-time for Anna Mae Zschernitz and Arlene Zaborowski of Thorp & Linda’s Beauty Nook of Withee, WI. After that, she then worked for Vi Janisewski in Stanley, staying there for 17 years.  In 1978, she was united in marriage to Ronald "Jim" Brown.

 

In 1987 Phyllis went on to Madison and began teaching cosmetology, receiving a promotion in 1989 as an assistant cosmetology supervisor of the IBA Cosmetology School.  In 1934, she took a position with Elizabeth Arden as a regional director for the salon in Minnesota, Illinois, Wisconsin & Michigan.  After two years she was offered the Assistant Director of Cosmetology at the Capri College in Madison, also working as the assistant supervisor of the school & full supervisor of the clinic student body.  In 1998 she worked part-time for Northwest Cosmetology School and Manhattan Hair Design until her retirement.  Phyllis also caringly gave many hours to the Cancer Society, making wigs for cancer patients and also returned to vocational school, earning a degree in counseling for addictive drug and alcohol abuse, working with the students of the cosmetology school and also teaching an outside course at the U-W-Hospital in Madison.

 

Phyllis is survived by her sons: Ronald James (Liz) Halterman-Brown, and Donald Brown, both of Madison, WI; grandson, Michael Raven Halterman-Brown; siblings: Liz Gravitte of Calhoun, GA, Donald (Mary Lou) Halterman Jr. and Buzz (Diane) Halterman, both of Stanley, WI; special friend, Jim Brown; foster granddaughter, Casey; plus many cousins, nieces, nephews, step-nieces and nephews and many, many awesome friends. 

 

She was preceded in death by her parents; maternal grandparents, Peder & Audrey Hugdahl; paternal grandparents, Ernest & Flo Halterman; great-grandma Bivans, "Ba" brother-in-law, Bud Gravitte; and many aunts and uncles.

 

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to your local hospice organization, D. R. Moon Public Library of Stanley, WI, or to the Phyllis Halterman Memorial Fund.
