Theodore A. Romig, 76, of Gilman, died Saturday, October 9, 2010, at the Palliative Care Unit at St. Joseph’s hospital in Marshfield.  He was born on December 14, 1933, in Canton, WI, the son of the late Glenn and Marie (Pickering) Romig.  His family moved to Gilman when he was a young man. The family has run Romig’s Hardware Store for 72 years.

Ted graduated from Gilman High and later married Doris Kolecheck on August 4, 1956.  He also entered the National Guard with a tour in Ft. Lewis, WA. Ted returned home and has co-owned Romig’s Hardware since.  He also was a strong member of his community.  Ted was on the village board and served as president, was a member of the Gilman Lions Club, the Gilman CBA, the parish council, and many other community organizations.  He loved to go to work, give back to his community in public service, and people in general.   Ted also enjoyed going to his cabin and many trips to Denver.

Ted is survived by his wife of 54 years, Doris, of Gilman; two children Sandy (Jerry) Sromek of Gilman, and Gregg (Shannon) Romig of Highlands Ranch, CO; five grandchildren: Megan and Bryce Sromek, and Tyler, Conner and Madison Romig; his brother, Darrell (Barb) Romig of Gilman; and sister, Marilyn (Roger) Newman of Gilman.  He is preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Nancy Dodge; and grandson, Garren Romig.

Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, October 13, 2010, at Ss. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Gilman. Father John Long officiated. Burial followed at the parish cemetery.  Visitation was from 4:00 until 8:00 p.m. Tuesday at the Church, with a vigil at 8:00.

The Gilman Funeral home assisted the family.  In lieu of flowers, memorials are appreciated.
