Humbird - Mentor Township, Wisconsin (19 November 1959)
The hunting season is here again and the town was very near man-less this weekend. Among the groups who went north, were Postmaster A. L. Kirby, Harold Losey, Art Laffe, Leo Printz, Ervin Kelsh, Orville Smith, Angus Flood and Karl Johnson with a party of 10; also Perle Pickett with Henry and Willard Stanley.
Friday evening a group of the American Legion Auxiliary ladies met at the Newton home to pack the Christmas box for the veterans at Wood Hospital. The large box contains many towel sets, clothing and cigarettes. The unit is very appreciative of the help of the Legion and others who contributed. Without help a small unit would not be able to make such a success. The President of is Mrs. Walter Sheffer.
Six ladies drove to Fairchild Sunday to attend the consecration service and open house at the new Methodist parsonage. Dist. Supt. Ralph Reece, Rev. Charles Hanson, Chippewa Falls, and Rev. Carl Serr of Humbird assisted.
Mr. and Mrs. Charles Bollom of Neillsville were Sunday evening visitors at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Chet Baily. The Bailys are planning to go to California soon.
Mr. and Mrs. Bob Fitzmaurice and two girls were in Eau Claire Thursday. The girls, who were polio victims, received good reports from their doctor.
Mr. and Mrs. Ben Clouse of Loyal were visitors Friday afternoon at the Henry Laffe home.
Mr. and Mrs. Harry Hansen plan to entertain their families from Milwaukee next weekend and for part of the local deer season. They will include Mr. and Mrs. Everett Hansen and children and Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Seelow and children, Mr. and Mrs. Melnard Hansen and children will divide the time between the Harry Hansens and the Jess Tomlinson’s, near Greenwood.
Mrs. Robert Mortenson and Mrs. Harvey Light of the Shortville and Sherwood area visited their parents, Mr. and Mrs. Harry Hansen, Thursday.
