Biddle, Lola Elaine (? - 29 November 1959)
Funeral services were scheduled for 2 p.m. last Wednesday in Thorp for Miss Lola Elaine Biddle, 20, who was killed instantly by a gunshot wound in her head last Sunday afternoon. The services were to be held from the Thorp Funeral Home chapel.
The death was listed a suicide by Coroner Robert Lulloff.
The bullet went through her head from back to front, and was embedded in the ceiling of the bathroom at the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. James Biddle on Rt. 2 Thorp. The body of his sister was found slumped in a corner of the bathroom by Roger, age 8. A high-powered rifle was found nearby.
Miss Biddle, an honor graduate of Thorp High School’s class of 1957, had been despondent since returning home from a Bible school where she enrolled and spent but a few days last September. However, her parents were unable to assess any reason for the despondency.
She had remained home with three smaller children when her parents and other children of the family left about 1 p.m. to attend church services in Gilman. The gunshot attracted the children between 3 and 3:30 p.m. They went to a neighbor’s home, from which Police Chief Harycki of Thorp was called.
