Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, Greenwood was the scene of the wedding on
Saturday, October 6, 1979, at 2:00 p.m., when Miss Barbara Lynn Elmer, 705
Memorial Drive, Merrill, became the bride of Jerry William Sternitzky, 601 E.
Maple, Spencer. The Rev. Douglas Groenewold officiated and music was provided by
Ron Kowitz, organist, and soloist, Mrs. Duane Olson.
Parents of the couple are Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Elmer, Route 1, Greenwood, and Mr.
and Mrs. Delmar Sternitzky, 601 E. Maple, Spencer.
Given in marriage by her father, the bride was seen in a white celesta knit gown
with Queen Anne neckline, long fitted sleeves trimmed with silk Venice lace and
seed pearls with a cathedral train. She carried a bridal bouquet of pink roses,
white carnations, mums, stephanotis and baby’s breath.
Miss Rhonda Elmer, La Crosse, served as maid of honor, and bridesmaids were Miss
Darla Elmer, Greenwood, Mrs. Dawn Susa, Spencer, and Miss Diane Sternitzky,
Marshfield. They wore rose colored knit gowns with rose colored carnations and
baby’s breath arranged in their hair. Each carried an arrangement of rose
colored carnations, white spider mums and baby’s breath.
Mr. Terry Sternitzky performed the duties of best man, while Mr. Mark Johnson,
Wisconsin Rapids, Mr. Bruce Elmer, Colby, and Mr. Jim Froelich, Stevens Point,
were groomsmen. Ushers were Mr. Roger Winter, Menomonie and Mr. Mark Meinders,
Spencer.
A dinner, reception and dance followed the ceremony at the Loyal Legion Hall.
The bride is a 1974 graduate of Greenwood High School and a 1979 graduate of St.
Joseph’s Hospital School of Radiologic Technology. She is an x-ray technician at
the Family Medical Clinic in Merrill. The groom graduated from Spencer High
School in 1974 and attended UW-Stevens Point. He is employed at Northern Door
Company, Merrill.
After a wedding trip to northern Wisconsin, the couple will make their home at
705 Memorial Drive, Apartment 6, Merrill.

On Saturday, October 6, 1979 at 1:30 p.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church,
Neillsville, Mr. Arnold Wesenberg gave his daughter Sandra Ann Wesenberg in
marriage to Bohdan Hanuszczak, Route 1, Granton. Father Lawrence Burger
officiated and music was provided by Mary Dresher, organist.
Miss Wesenberg is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Arnold Wesenberg, Route 1,
Granton, and the groom’s parents are Mr. and Mrs. Eustachij Hanuszczak, also
Route 1, Granton.
The bride was attired in a long white gown with long sheer sleeves, empire waist
and a scoop neckline. She carried a bouquet of white roses, blue delphiniums and
baby’s breath.
Mrs. David Mualuko, Milwaukee, served as matron of honor, and Mrs. Ostap
Hanuszczak, Neillsville, Miss Paula Wesenberg, Granton, were bridesmaids. They
wore light blue blouson dresses and carried bouquets of white daisies and yellow
carnations. Tammy and Craig Wesenberg were flower girl and ring bearer,
respectively.
Serving as best man was Merle Rose, Granton, and groomsmen were Slavko
Hanuszczak, Neillsville, Rick Dix, Marshfield, and Randy Wesenberg, Granton.
Ushering duties were performed by Dean Rollins and Jeff Lavey, Granton.
Following the ceremony there was a dinner in the church basement, and in the
evening a dance at the Sportsman’s Club, Granton.
The bride and groom are both 1978 graduates of Granton High School, and the
groom is engaged in farming.
Following a honeymoon to an unannounced location, the couple will reside at
Route 1, Granton.

to Steven Lockwood, Milwaukee, was held at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Nekoosa,
on Saturday afternoon, October 1, 1979.
Guests attending from Granton were her grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Ray Nickel,
and other relatives, Mr. and Mrs. Billie Nickel and family and Mrs. Elda Bartz.
The young couple will live at Milwaukee, where both are employed. The bride is a
nurse at. St. Luke’s Hospital.
They are spending their honeymoon in Jamaica.

Saturday, October 13, 1979 to celebrate the 55th wedding anniversary of Mr. and
Mrs. William Weichelt, who were holding open house after 3 p.m. A family dinner
was held at noon.

Peggy Oestreich, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Donald Oestreich, Route 2, Loyal, and

Avenue, Milwaukee, were chosen by Roach Hall at the University of Wisconsin,
Stevens Point to compete in the recent homecoming king and queen competition on
campus. The homecoming began October 7, 1979 and continued through October 14,
with traditional alumni and football activities, plus a concert starring Gen
Cotton, a flatland bike race, bed race, bonfire and cultural programs.
Peggy is a junior at UW-Stevens Point majoring in elementary education, and John
is a junior majoring in paper science.

The 51 members of the Class of 1981, St. Joseph’s School of Nursing pledged
their dedication to their chosen profession in a ceremony at Our Lady of Peace
Church, Marshfield, on Sunday, October 14,1979 at 2 p.m.
During what is traditionally known as the “Capping Ceremony,” women members of
the class received caps and male members, pins. The ceremony is conducted at the
time when students have completed their fundamentals in nursing and are
preparing to begin their clinical experience in the hospital.
A welcome and introductions by Richard Olson, class president, followed the
vocal and guitar presentation by Steve Kordiyak. Sister Stephanie, Director of
the Pastoral Care Department of St. Joseph’s Hospital, gave the invocation, and
Mrs. Penelope Hanson, Director of the School of Nursing, gave the address. Class
member Marie Krause presented a reading of the significance of the cap.
Class advisors, Mrs. Marie Kleiber and Sister Barbara, then performed the
capping ceremony, presenting either caps or pins to the students. Class members
then participated in the candle lighting. The program concluded with the reading
of the Nightingale Pledge by class member Mark Haferman.
Members of the Class from this area were Mary Elpert of Loyal, Denise Horn of
Greenwood, and Sarah Trunkel of Willard.

First Lutheran Church, Hayward, was the setting of the 3 p.m. wedding on August
18, 1979 of Patricia Jane Cooper, daughter of Mrs. Lynn C. McDowell and Norman
Cooper, both of Hayward, and Thomas Paul Frick, son of Mrs. Warren Sternitzky of
Granton, and the late Jacob Frick.
Officiating at the ceremony were Reverend Ronald Pechauer of Hayward and
Reverend C. F. Golisch, grandfather of the groom, of Ann Arbor, Michigan. Clare
Sawyer provided musical selections.
Accompanied to the altar by her father, the bride was seen in a white satin gown
with a fingertip veil. She carried a bouquet of roses, miniature carnations and
baby’s breath.
Laura Welsch of Hayward served as honor attendant. Bridesmaids were Trina Olsen
of Hayward and Mary and Grace Frick, both of Granton.
They were attired in floor length empire gowns of blue print polyester and
carried colonial bouquets of tinted blue carnations.
Jennifer Johns of Minneapolis served as flower girl and Andy Sternitzky of
Granton was ring bearer.
Attending the groom as best man was Nick Ladentine of Winter. Groomsmen were
John Frick of Chili and Dan Frick and John Strom, both of Hayward.
Performing ushering duties were James Kinzie of Cable and Richard Cooper of
Hayward.
A reception was held at Moose Hall in Hayward.
The new Mrs. Frick attended Hayward High School and is presently attending
technical school in Ashland.
Mr. Frick attended Granton High School and is employed in construction.

Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Waldhauser, who were married October 15, 1929 by the Rev.
Father Herman at St. Bernard’s Parsonage, St. Paul, Minnesota, celebrated their
golden wedding anniversary October 14, 1979.
Festivities for the day were an anniversary mass at 10:30 a.m. The Celebrant was
Father Chester Osowski.
Dinner followed for the family and close friends in the church hall.
An open house was held at the American Legion Hall, Loyal, from 2 to 5 p.m. for
friends and neighbors. For the occasion the honored couple’s attire was
complemented with a corsage of tinted flowers to match her dress, and a white
carnation boutonniere.
