Johnson, John August (15 July 1888 - 18 December 1959)
Funeral services were conducted Monday from St. John’s Evangelical and Reformed Church in Humbird for John August Johnson, 71, who died Friday at his home on Rt. 1, Humbird. The Rev. Carl Serr officiated and burial was made in the Mentor Cemetery.
Mr. Johnson was born July 15, 1888, in Sweden and came to the United States in 1906, locating in Chicago. On February 28, 1909 he was married to the former Mary Neilson in Chicago. In 1916 they moved to Pontiac, Ill., and in 1920 moved onto a farm near Humbird.
He is survived by his wife and one son, Francis Johnson of Merrillan. A sister and two brothers in Sweden also survive as does a grandson, Keith.
The Georgas Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
Pallbearers were Ed Mashin, J. A. Bell, Sam Fitzmaurice, Peter Kubaski, A. L. Sparks and William Theiler, Sr.
"The Old Rugged Cross" and "In the Garden" were sung by Mrs. Emma Theiler, Betty Zerbel, Darlene Fristad and the Rev. Carl Serr, accompanied by Maureen Laffe.
Flowers were carried by Mrs. Peter Kubaski and Mrs. Ed Kubaski.
People from away attending were: Mr. and Mrs. Roger Sorenson and Donald R. Johnson, Beloit; Mr. and Mrs. Francis Johnson, Mr. and Mrs. Keith Johnson, and Mrs. Violetta Shoemaker and family, Merrillan; Mr. and Mrs. Ed Pelzek and family, Mr. and Mrs. Anton Pelzek and Floyd, Fairchild; Earl Pierce and James Redmond, of Neillsville.
