P. J. Cosgrove, of Stanley was in the village on Monday.
H. F. Sargent was down from Stanley one day last week.
John Hatfield of Stanley was a caller here on Saturday last.

H. Brintnall returned from Unity last week where he has been with parents for several weeks.

A son was born to Mr. and Mrs. Thos. Biddle on the 15th inst., Dr. McKittrick being in attendance.

Peter Schroeder lost a valuable cow last week the animal eating some paris green stowed away in the barn.
The schools closed on Tuesday noon, the furnace giving out. Several days will be required to repair it.
Chas. Chamberlain, who has been employed at Sherry for some time, expects to move his family to that place this week to reside.
Mrs. Fannie Shaefer of Wurtenberg, and Mr. and Mrs. Ren Bruno of Rib Lake attended the funeral of May Bruno here on Tuesday.
A new school building is being talked of by the Polish residents in this vicinity, to be located near the Catholic Church two miles east of the village.
The business car of the W. C. with superintendents Collins, Horn and other officials made a short stop here one day last week looking over their property in a general way.

A cutter containing C. H. Sheldon and Miss Myra Fletcher was overturned on the street on Monday evening, caused by a sudden start of the horses and we understand, Miss Fletcher sustained injuries from which she will suffer for several weeks.
A fire alarm on Monday evening called out the fire department caused by the chimney on L. Kolb’s store burning out. The fire was confined to the chimney by liberal doses of salt, and no damage resulted.
The constant decline in prices at the stores in this village of late has had a wonderful effect in the money order business at the post office and express office. Not half as much business in that line is being done since the general inauguration of reduced prices.
The Thorp Meat Co. made a novel shipment to the Union Stock yards at Chicago last week. The consignment consisting of a car load - 23,000 pounds - of animal bones which will be ground up and used as fertilizer. The bones are worth $12 per ton f.o.b. here.
The new saw mill owned by Wm. Briggs, located six miles southeast of Thorp started up on Monday and will continue to saw during the season, the stock already on hand consists of about 500,000 feet of pine, oak and basswood and when sawed will be hauled to the old landing three miles east of this village for shipment.
Roman Jacinski was given sixty days in the county jail on Saturday last by Justice Geo. Burke for whipping his wife. Jacinski’s temper and mind is in such condition that many think him insane. He was taken to the county jail at Neillsville on Monday by deputy sheriff James Connors.
Cora Oliver of Merrillan, a girl of 17 years, was sentenced to a term at the Waukesha School for going astray, by Justice Williams the first of the week, and was taken to Waukesha Wednesday by Sheriff Buckley. Cora has a good honest father, who is well known and respected about Merrillan and she ought not to be where she is today. - Black River Falls Post
A blaze was discovered in the roof of Mrs. Condon’s boarding house about nine a.m. on Tuesday and before the fire department arrived the whole roof was in flames. The house which was constructed of logs was consumed, including nearly all of the personal effects of Frank Hedler who with his family is in camp. Most of Mrs. Condon’s household goods were removed safely. The loss is about $800 and no insurance was carried. The building was in former years the home of E. Boardman and was the first one erected on the present site of the village.
The Literary Society will hold an open meeting on Friday evening, Feb. 23, at Hipke & Gerbing’s Hall.
