Searles, Julia (29 October 1871 - 15 January 1960)

Mrs. Julia Searls, 88, Rt. 1, Granton, died Friday in Neillsville.  Services are being conducted this (Thursday) afternoon from the Zion American Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Marvin Beninga officiating.  Burial will be made in the Neillsville City Cemetery.

Mrs. Searls, the former Julia Hanson, was born October 29, 1871, in Richland County, and received her education there.  On March 9, 1895, she was married to the late James Searls. They came to Clark County in 1899, where they were engaged in farming.  Mrs. Searls had resided on Rt. 1, Granton, for the last 20 years.

She is survived by seven daughters, Mrs. Bertha Mattson of Whitetail, Mont., Mrs. Jerry (Leona) Grand of Milwaukee, Minnie and Edna Searls, at home, Mrs. Herbert (Inga) Free of Rt. 1, Neillsville, Mrs. William (Gladys) Seltrecht of Campbellsport, and Mrs. Hubert (Alice) Richert of Greenwood; and three sons, George of Reedsburg, Herbert of Yakima, Wash., and Harold of Rt. 1 Granton.  Twenty-nine grandchildren and 57 great-grandchildren also survive, as do two brothers, John and Cal Hanson, and a sister, Mrs. Emma Haynes, all of Richland County.

Funeral arrangements were made by the Gilbertson Funeral Home in Granton.

Pallbearers were: Ed Voigt, George Hales, Ed Schlinsog, Russel Gardner, Clarence Sternitzky and Milford Rowe.

The singers, Mrs. Norman Faber, Mrs. Everett Kauffman, Mrs. Warren Henderson and Harold Schlinsog, were accompanied by Elaine Braatz.  Flower girls were Mrs. Belva Peterson, Mrs. Dorothy Jacobchick and Mrs. Inez Spuhler. 

Those from away attending the funeral were: Cal Hanson, John Hanson, Mrs. Emma Haynes, Mr. and Mrs. Albert Dalberg, Mrs. Bertha Searls, Myron Searls, Mr. and Mrs. Maynard Doudna, all of Richland Center.  Mr. and Mrs. George Searls of Reedsburg; Mrs. Bertha Mattson of Whitetail, Mont.; Herbert Searls of Yakima, Wash.; Charlie Kurriger and son, James, Douglas McLean and Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence McLean, Mr. and Mrs. Eugene Heidenrich, Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Jacobchick, Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Grand, all of Milwaukee.  Mrs. William Seltrecht of Campbellsport; Mr. and Mrs. Frederich Verpohl of West Bend; Mr. and Mrs. Ronald Johnson of Rockford, Ill.; Roy McMillan of Sycamore; and friends from Eau Claire, Black River Falls, Mauston and Neillsville.
