Zilk, Elaine "Bunny" Florence (9 May 1924 - 9 November 2010)

 

Elaine "Bunny" Zilk, 86, of Neillsville, died Tuesday, Nov. 9, 2010, at the Memorial Medical Center in Neillsville.

 

Elaine Florence Jackson was born May 9, 1924, in Owen, the daughter of Adolph J. and Adeline E. (Behrens) Jackson.  She attended grade school in Longwood and graduated from Owen High School.  Elaine then attended technical school in Antigo and Marshfield and studied medical terminology.  She began working for Federal Land Bank in Greenwood and for Clark County Farm Loan.  She was united in marriage to William Glen Zilk, May 22, 1947, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Neillsville.  Elaine then began her medical transcriptionist career at the Neillsville Clinic.  Later, she worked for the Marshfield Clinic and the Marshfield Clinic-Greenwood Satellite.  In the 1980s she earned her certification in medical transcription at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point. She retired from the Marshfield Clinic in 1988.

 

She was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, the PCCW St. Remegius Circle and the Right to Life, serving as a counselor in Neillsville.  She was a member of the Clark County Homemakers Club.  She was also a member of the Beau’s Art Club, and she created beautiful paintings that were featured in the halls of the Marshfield Clinic.  Elaine was also a Camp Fire Girls leader and a tap dancer instructor.  Elaine and William Glen were members of the Dine & Dance Club. She also loved to golf and was a member of the Neillsville Country Club. She would regularly golf with her female friends Thursday afternoon Ladies Day at the Country Club.

 

She is survived by three daughters, Patricia (Russell) Charboneau of Mr. Vernon, IA, Mary Jo Meier of Neillsville and Carla (Timothy) Voigt of Neillsville; a son, William (Tamara) Zilk of Neillsville; 11 grandchildren, Tyler, Seth and Samuel Meier, Sean and Glen Kneeland, Brandon and Nathan Zilk, Jasmine Merino, Alleah and Avriel Voigt and Lizabeth Ziegler-Zilk; and five great-grandchildren.  She is also survived by siblings: Marjorie (Bud) Herdrich of Tomah, Carole (Verne) Schuld of Minneapolis, MN, Betty (Curt) Hong of Eau Claire, Conrad (Sandy) Jackson of Eau Claire and Al (Sandra) Jackson of Camp Douglas.

 

She was preceded in death by her husband, William Glen Zilk, in April of 2005; her parents; a brother, Robert Jackson and a son-in-law, Raymond Meier.

 

The Mass of Christian Burial for Elaine was held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Nov. 12, 2010 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Neillsville with Celebrant Fr. Woodrow H. Pace.  Music was provided by Ronald Resong, organist, and St. Mary’s Choir.  Interment was in St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery.  Visitation was from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday with a 6:30 p.m. Rotary (Rosary) service at the Gesche Funeral Home in Neillsville.  Visitation was also from 9:30 a.m. to 10:15 a.m. Friday at St. Mary’s Catholic Church. 

 

Casketbearers were: Seth and Samuel Meier, Sean and Glen Kneeland and Brandon and William Zilk.
