Truckload of Paint (Fire - 5 March 1960)
What might have been an explosive situation was handled without incident here shortly after noon Saturday after a truck trailer load of 31,000 pounds of paint, paint thinner and furniture polish caught fire.
The blaze was extinguished with damage estimated by Glenn Zilk of Neillsville, the driver, at from $500 to $800. The load was insured.
The blaze started when Mr. Zilk opened the rear door of the trailer to inspect the load, which was lying over for the weekend on the city parking lot between the railroad tracks and the American Stores Condensery. He said that a charcoal burner, kept lighted inside to prevent the latex water based paint from freezing, had charred the corrugated paper of one of the cartons. "The heat (missing portion)
