Van Gorden, Marcia Beth (Heart Surgery - 1960)

Marcia Beth Van Gorden, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Heron (Pink) Van Gorden of Neillsville, underwent successful heart surgery at Variety Club Heart Hospital in Minneapolis Tuesday.

She entered the operating room at 7 a.m. and remained until 1 p.m.

Marcia is a student in the third grade at Southside Grade School.  Friends may write her at Section 301 Variety Club Heart Hospital, Minneapolis, Minn.

Dr. Sarah Rosekrans and the Rev. Frank B. Harcey drove to Minneapolis Monday evening and remained with the Van Gordens until Tuesday evening.

Six local men drove to Minneapolis Monday to give blood for the operation.

Those giving blood were: Bob Opelt, Donald W. Johnson, Charles Barr, Bill Jake, DuWayne Dux and Harris Schoengarth.

Dr. Sarah Rosekrans, who witnessed the operation and saw Marcia in the recovery room afterward, reported to her parents that "the operation went very well. She has a very, very fine chance for good recovery."

Mr. Van Gorden said Marcia is expected to be confined to the hospital for about three weeks.
