Hazuga, John (16 NOV 1876 - 3 APR 1957)

 

John Hazuga, 80, of Stanley, passed away at Stanley Wednesday night after an illness of one month.  He was born in Czechoslovakia on Nov. 16, 1876, and came to the United States in 1883 to Lattimore, Penn.  Mr. Hazuga worked in the coal fields there for three years, and then bought an 80 acre farm near Stanley.  He also worked on a steam loader in the lumber camp.

 

He married Stella Pogodzinski in 1902 at St. Hedwig’s Church near Thorp (Clark Co., Wis.).  She passed away in 1929, and one son also preceded him in death.  Survivors are four sons, John of Thorp; Edward, Milwaukee; Robert and William of Stanley; four daughters, Mrs. Sylvester (Mary) Driessen; Helen Hazuga of Chicago; Mrs. Carl (Sophie) Franz, Madison, and Mrs. Joe (Ida) McGahey, Chicago.  Also surviving are two brothers, Joe and Frank of Charleton, Penn.; one sister, Mrs. John Germack of McKeesport, Penn.; 18 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild.

 

He was a member of St. Mary’s Church in Stanley.  The Rev. Ralph Geissler officiated.  Interment was in the St. Mary’s Cemetery.  Pallbearers were Stanley and Louis Slowiak, Richard Moore, Dean Kiraly, Jack Schesel and Stanley Gutowski.
